How To Connect ASUS Router To Another Router?
Several ways and utilities are there to connect two routers. For your information, we’ll use Media Bridge Mode and Repeater Mode to connect one ASUS router to the other.
Method 1: Media Bridge Mode
The first method on the list to connect two ASUS routers is the Media Bridge Mode. In this method, one router is connected to the second, and the second is connected to several entertainment devices like gaming consoles, computers, smart TVs, etc. These devices simultaneously use the fastest WiFi 802.11ac connection to give you a spectacular experience.
Equipment required: To create Media Bridge, you need a few tools given as follows:
- Two ASUS routers (one will act as a media station while the other will serve as an actual router and provide an internet connection).
- A laptop or computer.
- Bundled LAN cable
- Wireless router’s AC adaptor
Note: The firewall, NAT function, and IP sharing are disabled in this mode. So you won’t be able to use these functionalities. Moreover, we’ll use the RT-AC68U ASUS router in this method as an example.
Step 1: Connect your computer to the router.
- Connect the wireless router’s AC adaptor’s one end to the DC-IN slot while the other power-input end to the wall socket or power outlet.
- Use the bundled network cable to connect your computer to the router’s LAN outlet by plugging the appropriate ends into the correct slots.
Step 2: Access the QIS page from ASUS Router Web GUI.
- Click the following link, [https://router.asus.com/], to launch the required web page.
- Enter your username and password and click sign in.
- When you sign in to the Web GUI for the first time, you’ll get the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) page. If not, go to this page.
Step 3: Connect to the other WiFi router via the Media Bridge.
- Once on the QIS page, go to Advanced Settings > Choose operation mode > Media Bridge > search for WiFi signals.
- Choose the WiFi network of the other router; it must be 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz, e.g., RT-AC68U 5GHz. Click on it.
- Enter the WiFi’s network key and click Next. From here, click Automatic IP.
- Up to this point, the Media Bridge settings are finished.
Note: Once you have connected the first router to the second using the Media Bridge setup, you can connect all your entertainment gadgets to the second router. These gadgets include PCs, gaming consoles, smart TVs, DVRs, etc.
Method 2: Repeater Mode
In the Repeater Mode, you can connect an ASUS router wirelessly to an existing network via the router or modem to increase the wireless coverage. This can be useful if you have a large home or want to improve the wireless signal in a particular area.
Equipment required: To create Media Bridge, you need a few tools given as follows:
- Two ASUS routers (one to fit within the network while the other to connect afterward to expand the networking coverage).
- A laptop or computer.
- Bundled LAN cable
- Wireless router’s AC adaptor
Note down these cautions:
- The firewall, NAT function, and IP sharing are disabled in this mode. So you won’t be able to use these functionalities.
- In the repeater method, the router’s IP automatically changes when connected to an existing network. In such a case, you can download and install Device Discovery Utility first to find its ID.
- We’ll perform this tutorial on Windows 10 while using the ASUS RT-AC68U router in the network and the ASUS RT-AC66U B1 router to connect to the network.
The Repeater Mode method is as follows:
Step 1: Set up the routers and connect your computer.
- Ensure that the ASUS RT-AC68U has an internet connection.
- Connect the wireless ASUS RT-AC66U B1’s AC adaptor’s one end to the DC-IN slot while the other power-input end to the wall socket or power outlet.
- Use the bundled network cable to connect your computer to the router’s LAN outlet by plugging the appropriate ends into the correct slots.
Step 2: Access the QIS page from ASUS RT-AC66U B1’s Web GUI.
- Once on the QIS page, go to Advanced Settings > Choose operation mode > Repeater mode > search for WiFi signals.
- Choose the WiFi network of the other router; it must be 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz, e.g., RT-AC68U 2.4GHz. Click on it.
- Enter the WiFi network key of the RT-AC68U, which is acting as a front device, and click Next. From here, click Automatic IP.
Step 4: Set up the Security key for the ASUS RT-AC66U B1.
- Next, you have to set up the security key for the ASUS RT-AC66U B1.
- Set up the login username and password for the router in the repeater mode.
